Hermes

Picture
Hermes, one of the twelve Olympians and the god of: messengers, boundaries, travelers, shepherds, cowherds, thieves, liars, orators, athletics, sports, weights, measures, invention, commerce. Hermes has been cunning from birth. Son of Zeus and a nymth named Maia. Hermes is said to have invented the lyre on the day of his birth and stole Apollo's cattle by nightfall. Hermes gave Apollo the lyre which in turn made him the god of music. Hermes got the caduceus which made him the god of shepherds. Hermes is also said to have invented fire.

I think Hermes represents pursuit of excellence because he just tries to be the best he can be.

The caduceus has commonly been confused with the rod of Asclepios, the god of medicine, which has only one snake around it. So that is why the caduceus if commonly shown as representing medicine.

Winged Sandals-Since Hermes is the god of messengers along with Iris the goddess, he uses his winged sandals to fly faster than the wind to deliver messages around the world.
